Kicking off December with a bang!
Friday 2nd December
We were thrown right into the thick of things, kicking off December with a bang for a joint 50th and 60th birthday party for Mel and her brother. The DJ (Darren - 07923 548879) played some excellent music from the 70s right up to the present day!
Baby Guinnesses were the order of the night and Amelia did a sterling job of keeping everyone topped up!
Saturday 3rd December
An early start after Friday's shenanigans on Saturday morning for The Red Cross of Constantine's AGM at The Mill House. The meeting started at 10am with tea and coffee and we laid out one of our classic buffets for their lunch.
Did someone say 'have the rest of the weekend off'?
Did someone say 'have the rest of the weekend off'? Blimey! Thanks very much! We all enjoyed some time out that weekend with family and friends.
Monday 5th December
Back in on Monday 5th with the first of our Christmas lunches for Clitheroe and District Masonic Fellowship. We served a 3 course menu with soup or Melon and Parma Ham, a traditional turkey roast or fish option, finishing off with the obligatory Christmas pudding and brandy sauce or cheese and biscuits - for those preferring a little something more savoury. All followed by tea, coffee and mince pies. There was singing, a quiz and a raffle too!
A definite new favourite!
Tuesday 6th December
Tuesday brought the monthly meeting for Amity Lodge who fancied lasagne with chips and garlic bread (quorn lasagne for veggies) followed by our new trifle cheesecake. We mixed the mascarpone with vanilla custard and topped everything with a layer of fruit, raspberry jelly and sherry cream - a definite new favourite!
Wednesday 7th December
Breakfast club on Wednesday morning with the introduction of our 'overnight oats' - they went down a treat so will be on the menu permanently from now on.
If anyone fancies making them you will need:
A handful of gluten free oats
150ml Greek yoghurt
Topped with dried tropical fruits.
Honey and dark chocolate chips (Optional for people to add themselves if they wanted).
None left for the staff that morning but I know the chef, so it's OK!
Flyfishers, who returned after a successful Christmas Dinner last year
We welcomed a group of flyfishers that evening who returned after a successful Christmas Dinner last year. They dined, in our private dining suite, on soup, paté or fishcakes followed by roast turkey, haddock in a white wine sauce or beef stroganoff, finishing with a choice of Christmas pudding, black forest Christmas fool or cheese and biscuits. Tea, coffee and mince pies finished off the evening nicely.
Thursday 8th December
We hosted a training day, and provided our corporate package with flip chart, overhead projector, paper, pencils etc. along with breakfast sandwiches and a buffet lunch with dessert.
Thursday was also an opportunity to meet with some other suppliers whom I've met through our venue dressing business Sweetness & Lights Events / @sweetnessandlightsevents.
L-R: Margaret Levy from Rosehill Cake Studio, Andy Harrison from Rock Star Magic, Kelly Waters from MakeUp by Kelly Waters, Me - Sharon Deal from The Mill House Venue and Sweetness & Lights Events, Jo Walls from The Alternative Florist, Caroline from Willow and Wilde Bridal, Sarah Wilson from Daisy Chains, and Sarah from Round the Twist Balloons
We hosted a cocktail evening where I demonstrated a few of our more popular tipples (tasters were involved as well!). I ran a quiz and we had a pass-the-parcel with the prize being a social media overhaul worth £100 from Katie Lyth and Roxy Bond.
This was won by Margaret Levy - congratulations Margaret!
Friday 9th December
Accrington Academy staff held their Christmas party here on Friday and a fabulous night was had by all! They dined on a 3 course Christmas menu with the favourite dessert being our Trifle Cheesecake made with mascarpone, vanilla custard, berries in raspberry jelly topped with sherry cream - yummy!
What better landscape could you wish for at a winter wedding?
Saturday 10th December
What better landscape could you wish for at a winter wedding? The snowfall on Friday night ensured that Stuart and Deanne had the wedding of their dreams on Saturday.
You know you're doing something right when the groom has tears in his eyes when he sees the ceremony set up in our Corn Mill Suite function room.
The day went without a hitch and the cold outside didn't stop any of the guests enjoying themselves and celebrating the night away with the happy couple.
A live Web link to South Africa during the ceremony ensured that family from far and wide could still take part in the celebrations too!
Monday 12th December
Back in again on Monday for Prosperity Lodge's Christmas Dinner and it's always lovely to host the other halves and guests of the gentlemen Masons who we see every week.
See you in 2023
Tuesday 13th December
Albert Edward held their last meeting of the year on Tuesday and dined on braised beef with melting onions in a red wine jus - fast becoming a firm favourite with all the lodges.
We're gearing up to host the Accrington Fellowship Christmas Lunch as I type and then we just have a few more Masonic meetings before we're back in the new year after a well deserved break.
Have a fantastic Christmas, and we'll see you in 2023!
